Yes, this is it.
This is the NFL Draft Red Carpet.
I was there, behind the scenes (actually, to the side of the scenes).
Situated between the Auditorium Theatre at Roosevelt University on Congress Ave and Selection Square in Grant Park- this is the exclusive carpet where football legends from past, present and future make an entrance.
And here I am. Yes, laugh at my hair. I do not have good Chicago locks. Laugh at the sweater, too. I borrowed it- since I was it was SO windy and SO cold- But NOTHING could have possibly wiped the never-ending smile from my face. I was sharing space with major media outlets, fresh from an impromptu “Facebook Live Stream” and I was ready.
Ready to greet The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award national and team winners!
I was proud, too. So very proud to be the 1st “NFLMomBlogger” invited onto this carpet and I was going to remember EVERY- single- second.
See I hold myself to the same standards, as I do my sons. Whatever they choose to do in life- I want them to be happy, do their best and hopefully make a difference. Whether they choose a career in art, business, hospitality, or maybe someday, the NFL.
The following men (and more) definitely make an difference.
The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award national and team winners are recognized for excellence on and off the field and as a reflection of the NFL’s commitment to philanthropy and in community impact.
You may have seen them on television during The NFL Draft when they announced the “Round 3” picks this year.
Without further ado…The NFL Draft Red Carpet!
Eric is laughing in this picture because the announcer had just stated he received the award for “best hair” in the NFL.
During Round 3, Chicago Bears 2010 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year team winner, (DE) Israel Idonije, announced the Bears’ pick accompanied by middle school students from Barton Elementary School in Chicago. Barton Elementary School students are participating in the new national education initiative focused on youth character development and healthy relationships, Character Playbook, which is funded by the NFL Foundation, United Way Worldwide and powered by EverFi. The interactive digital program will be implemented directly in schools in NFL team markets, starting immediately in 14 NFL markets and expanding to all 32 and surrounding communities over the next three years.
I was fortunate enough to be standing by the NFL Rush reporter who is very young and interviewed all of the men. He asked, at times, some very humorous questions! Like, “where do you buy your clothes?” To which, Thomas Davis replied, his outfit was “purchased at an on-line store by his wife”.
This was such an amazing night, for me and the fans who packed the exclusive NFL Draft Red Carpet area. I know these men will continue to make great strides in their communities, and in their games! Thank you, for being true NFL role models and making a difference.

~And on a very personal note, thank you, for the extra hands, a sweater (and almost a pair of shoes) Charlotte, Barbara & Michael. ♥
