Many family and friends have inquired “What was Draft Town like?”
My response… AMAZING.
However, it was much more than that.
This was a true memory-making experience. For my children, for my family and for myself.
Think back to your favorite memory as a child, and remember how it felt. How it still makes you smile. You remember the sound of laughter, the taste of the food, the touch of the weather on your skin.
Look at your child, think of a place where you witnessed them discover something REALLY big. Maybe they didn’t even comprehend how BIG it was, but you knew.
This is Draft Town
Actually above is a photo of Selection Square (one of the main facilities) where a large portion of The NFL Draft process takes place. It is one of the biggest visual aspects The NFL Draft. It boasts the 32 team tables- where club representatives submit player selections during the process you viewed on TV.
NFL Draft Town is a 3- day festival, and a place, where you realize what the slogan Football is Family means.
Draft Town involved; learning (The NFL Museum, College Football Corner, Wilson Football Factory), being active (NFL Play 60 Zone, Combine Corner, Field Goal Kick, 40 Yard Dash), community (NFL Draft Town Tailgate & Taverns), multiple photo opportunities (with replica models, uniforms, stages and commentators), exclusive brand promotions and virtual reality demonstrations. Did I mention Cheerleader performances, “Chalk Talks” and music by Chicago 6? And yes, it provided opportunities to view the legendary NFL Draft process.
And it was free.
The experience, however, was absolutely priceless.
Because, even as the unseasonably cool and wet temps remained through-out the weekend, it didn’t stop the action. Fans, families, even the occasional collegiate (and professional NFL) player, interacted and enjoyed all that the sport of football has to offer.
After two years in Chicago, Draft Town 2016 was bigger (and better) than ever.
We had moments of “being a kid” ourselves- as my husband shows…
and moments of spirited competitive play with new friends (and virtual NFL player opponents).
The time went fast. It was a whirlwind. In fact, I have yet to tell you about the NFL Draft Red Carpet or the NFL Family Field Clinics. Events, most certainly worthy, of their own descriptions, pictures and upcoming posts.
I know this year’s NFL Draft had some moments that will stand-out in years to come (especially, Round 1). The selections and hoopla that had social media buzzing, but I viewed The NFL Draft from a different perspective this year.
Draft Town focused on the game- the history, the records, the legends, the athletes. It is for all of the fans and the families who love football. Whatever team (though I often received a sympathetic look when revealed myself as NE Pats fan) you follow and claim as your own- you were welcomed here.
This was the start beautiful memories for my children, just beginning to play and location for the collegiate athletes who’s dreams just came true. The inspiration, and the love of the game, was everywhere.
This was our Draft Town.
