Women in the NFL!
I am so proud that my boys are growing up in a time when there is a female presence with major roles within the NFL! It was announced this week that The Arizona Cardinals hired Jen Welter to coach inside linebackers through their upcoming training camp and pre-season! Welter formerly coached linebackers and special teams for the Revolution becoming the first woman to coach in a men’s pro football league. This follows last April’s hiring of Sarah Thomas the league’s first female official!
I am optimistic female leaders, and women in the NFL are the soon-to be NEW normal. Not only will this pave the way for future opportunities for young female athletes (like my nieces) and provide them a role model, but it is one step closer to removing boundaries based on stereotyped gender roles, in other aspects of life.
Developing sportsmanship and teamwork is essential for our young to learn. Girl or boy.
The key skills developed and fostered in organized sports will be of benefit long into adulthood.
If your child is ready, The NFL FLAG football program by USA Football is a great way to introduce your kids to the game with a non-contact environment. Co-ed leagues across the country that are active year round!
Some key benefits of NFL FLAG football include:
- Physical activity
- Teaches fundamentals of sport
- Encourages strategic thinking
It also provides discussions points for nutrition, hydration, goal-setting and more!
These are life development skills wonderfully suited for children of BOTH sex!
All NFL FLAG members receive a free one-year USA Football membership, which provides access to USA Football’s educational courses, tools, and resources. This is a great way to continue the conversation as a family AND wonderful teaching tool for parents!
