The Mother’s Day Gift
First as I begin, let me tell you, you will see a lot of brands featured in this essay, which is not unusual but this is NOT a sponsored post.
For my Mother’s Day Gift, this year Chuck and the boys, gave me a day away. A day off of responsibilities, some folding money and no curfew. I have not been away from the boys for a longer than 6 hours stretch since October 2013. Chuck joked, I could go sit at a bar or go pick out a bra (lol). What he meant was, do something I wouldn’t do any other day.
I wish I could tell you I had this wild and crazy adventure filled with massages, golf, tattoos or something WILD.
In fact as I drove off at 9:30 AM, I really had no clue WHAT to do. You can’t just call up another parent ask them to make arrangements for their kids and you certainly don’t want to wait around for them to make arrangements (clock is ticking).
What to do? What to do?
Casino! Whoo hoo! I drove to the beautiful Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino and….
…Spent 10 minutes and lost $15.00. So I left. I made the security detail chuckle about my quick trip. I REALLY have a love/hate relationship with gambling. I hate to lose my money. It is even worse if I WIN, I refuse to put it back in the machines. About 10 years ago Chuck drove us well over an hour to a casino, I won $250 very quickly and wanted to leave right away. Maybe if I didn’t have the whole day to be gone and a bit more money saved for this I would have stayed longer. The Casino itself, is very beautiful, featuring events and an awesome racetrack but this was not that day.
Next, I decided to head to JC Penney, because I had an awesome coupon! I’d buy myself some much needed non-mom clothes. Unfortunately, I went to the wrong mall. Well, this mall had a Hobby Lobby. I don’t dare enter Hobby Lobby with my rambunctious boys! In, I went. Hmmm… I found lots of decor I liked, but did I need clothes more….Yes. I am the last to get new clothes and I wanted to feel pretty.
Hmmm… I am hungry. I left the house without breakfast unless you count a Starbucks white mocha with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle.
Crab. I want a nicer lunch setting than usual the typical fast fare…Red Lobster. Yes, this is a need and a want.
Busy, but no wait! Score! Crab Bisque and Cheddar Bay Biscuits while I perused Facebook. Alone, and eating soup this took all of 30 minutes to do.
Outside, there is a cool guy having a fierce boxing battle, behind my car. I stared at him. He says “It’s a bee” and continues his dance. His girlfriend hangs her head in shame. Oh my, I must to post this on facebook and share the laugh. He was actually a great boxer! Poor little bee.
Off to JC Penney, this time I went to the correct mall. The store is next to Chocolaterie Stam. It is very busy and it is a good thing I am full or I would have spent serious money inside on truffles.
I also wanted to try on clothes, chocolate had to wait. After 2 and 1/2 hours (seriously) I had found the most gorgeous polka dot sheath dress and a pair of khaki capri’s. Oh yes, I had found much more than two items, but I am making a mental note for my upcoming birthday. LOL. The sheath dress was a good deal, but not an inexpensive dress. Still machine washable (bonus) and a very tailored fit! Plus polka dots are not only suited for classic look, but very trendy right now. So I am excited to have in-style for a date night!
It was exactly what mama needed and it looked that good.
Next I went to Toy’s R Us. Henry’s birthday is this week. We already bought him SSSHHHH the Little Tykes Get out N Grill, but I had a gift card to spend. Sunglasses (eye protection is SO important) a Paw Patrol potty seat, fridge magnets and a bean bag game.
My last stops were to Dunkin Donuts (needed a caffeine re-fuel) and yes, Walmart.
I did buy a bra, because if hubby mentions it- it is probably needed. And though, I enjoyed my day. My thoughts were never far from the guys in my life. Virtually every place I thought to visit, ASIDE from shopping, was a no-go because I’d rather have my family with me. At some points, I actually found it some what stressful rather than relaxing not to have a schedule! Not complaining, just observing.
I got home at 7:30 that night and heard how much fun they had, without me. Dairy Queen, Moo’s BBQ and S’Mores by the firepit (hey, was it Father’s Day?) that is a better than average day!
I hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day weekend or just a really nice weekend filled with love and lots of laughter.
