This week is a real-life high school reunion! Meet Kevin from Who Woulda Thought?
Kevin is a wonderfully talented husband, father and Cubmaster! His site boast brilliant design and everyday musings pertaining to life, marriage, fatherhood and pop-culture. Though I will let you know his brand of comedy can be considered a bit more gritty in nature and language is suited for a more mature audience.
Kevin and I are actually due for a REAL high school reunion- 20 YEARS! Yikes! And though, we now live hundreds of miles away, remain connected via the world of social media!
Kevin’s Ask Away Friday questions for me actually began with a note:
Since you and I went to high school together, these will be questions asked about your high school experience…bwhahahaha (remember all questions are referring to high school)
1. What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in high school?
Holy moly! I can’t pick one thing, it is more like try to choose a daily embarrassing event. At the time, I thought I was SO wise. Plus I studied Cosmetology, so we regularly walked around the school with perm rods, rollers and accidentally dyed purple hair- creating multiple cringe-worthy moments and sometimes actual Mean Girls-like behavior.
2. What was your “life changing” moment?
Kevin, seriously? Okay. In senior year, I went to Hawaii. It had to have been one of my first trips utilizing an airplane. After that, I KNEW travel would be in my future in some capacity and I needed to leave my city. I had a passion to really see, taste and experience the world.
I also got sun-poisoning- so I learned I needed to drastically change the way I cared for my fair skin, for future health, in a very painful way!
3. Did you have a secret crush and would you ever reveal that person?
I had a new “crush” EVERY week. I was boy crazy! It would be far more to revealing to say my best guy-friend, Nate (In Printing Tech, with you) taught me far more about love by NOT getting in a overly complicated relationship with me.
4. What kind of vehicle did you drive?
A Huffy, lol. I didn’t get my license until I was in my 20’s. I was terrified of driving! So I was a passenger of the bus or if REALLY lucky, in a friend’s car.
5. Were you part of a clique and if you were what kind was it?
I would like to think, I was a friend to all- but I know, I was easily influenced. Hmmm. I was a cosmetologist, cheerleader and read the morning announcements over the intercom. Some of my friends were very popular, and I was always present in the background. The “shops” really divided us- but I was friendly with most of the other vocations.
6. How many times did you visit the principal’s office and for what?
Every morning! LOL! I read the morning announcements and said the Pledge of Allegiance. I did get in real trouble once and was not given suspension- because the Coordinator of Student Punishment at the time, Mr Shaunessy (a legend in the area) said that was like giving me a potential vacation and I NEEDED to STAY in school. He knew my parents (and myself) would create a point-on punishment.
7. Were you sworn to any secrets from your friends?
I was a teenage girl, I think these happened daily. I cannot think of any pivotal ones.
8. Who was your favorite teacher and why?
It’s a tie. Mrs. Z in Cosmetology, who once gave me a medallion of a saint, who would protect me. I was not raised with religion and was experiencing a lot of serious personal issues. It was a time in life, when I needed to make better choices to avoid going down hill fast. It was a moment desperately needed, and that, I would NEVER forget.
And Mrs Nagle, my English teacher, who constantly encouraged me. I needed that.
9. Did you have a nickname and what was it?
UGH I am so embarrassed. I had two. Jacey- I thought it was “cool” (it was my initials JC spelled out. NOW it just seems embarrassing. A few of my closer friends called me “Barbie” I think, it was cause I was VERY blond and practically had my face airbrushed.
10. If you had a chance to do it all over again, would you?
Not high school, unless I carried some of my knowledge of the present. I probably would re-live my college years or a special day in my childhood. However, I think I am a MUCH better friend and person because of those crazy high school days!
WOW! Some of those were actually hard, thought-provoking questions about those high school years!
