Learning through play is thought to be one of the best ways for children to grow their skill sets, and I couldn’t agree more, that’s why I’m so happy to share Super Duper Publications and their line of fun, educational materials for kids, including games, card decks, software, apps, books, tests and programs, and more!
The company provided us with Top 10 Holiday Picks list from which to make our selection, and wow! what an amazing selection it was. We opted for MagneTalk Yogarilla Exercises game, Photo Fish Classifying Magnetic Game, Turtle Talk Fluency and Language game, and Hopping Frogs Language game. They generously included a little stocking stuffer of an electronic spinner.
Where to begin? I could do a separate review for each game and probably still never do them justice. These games are easy for children to learn and utilize, but as a parent and an adult, I can see the creativity it took to make a simple fishing game an enjoyable way to learn words for things in five different categories. My kids didn’t have to tell me they were learning; I could tell at the end of the game when they could identify so many of the fish “categories.”
Since we did have four games to look through, we tried to keep it simple for the girls, and I can honestly say the Photo Fish game was by far their favorite. They could understand the rules and play together. They could name what the pictures were on the fish, and then we could discuss categories. And because there were two “fishing poles” included, we didn’t have to endure fights over whose turn it was.
The Yogarilla Exercises game was fun because mommy got to teach some yoga moves to the girls, as I tried to imitate OTis the Gorilla, to the girls’ delight. But this game is wonderful for strength, balance and motor planning, and is designed to help children in occupational therapy, which brings me to one of my praise points for Super Duper Publications: they have a special emphasis on materials for children with special needs and language delays.
We tackled Hopping Frogs, because if you’ve ever been around a toddler, you know that their pronunciation isn’t perfect. This game focuses on early language and articulation skills, specifically for P, B, T, D, K, G and F. Annie took this one on like a champ, and of course, Leelou had to try and imitate everything she did.
In addition to the learning aspect of these games, I guess that was one byproduct I didn’t expect: rather than fighting over the games, the girls focused on what I was asking them to do or answer, and they concentrated on fulfilling the task rather than competing with each other. That was a good day, my friends.
I would highly recommend these toys as amazing holiday gift selections. There’s such a wide range of skill sets that are covered in addition to fun ways to do it. These games are great for fun family playtime, and I suspect that they would be wonderful for homeschooling moms and students as well.
