Welcome to #AskAwayFriday! Week #10
This week, I had the absolute pleasure of getting to know Michelle from A Dish of Daily Life better!
She is an multi-tasking, wife, mom of 3 (plus 7 fur-babies) who has been blogging since last September! A lifestyle blogger, she specializes in social media marketing and is a photo management specialist. Michelle has a passion for sports, photography, running and the outdoors.
Michelle offers a wide variety of posts and subjects on her blog and next time I visit the East coast, I am definitely going to meet up with her!
BIG NEWS! Michelle is also a contributing author in the fabulous book The Mother of All Meltdowns!
I truly enjoyed finding out more about Michelle for this week’s #AskAwayFriday and look forward to following her myself at A Dish of Daily Life!
Here is the questions Michelle had for me and my answers for this #AskAwayFriday!
What’s your favorite thing about where you live?
I love the wide open spaces in Iowa, especially around fall! We get to enjoy all four seasons! In my particular city, we have a wonderful sense of community. I am extremely joyful knowing my boys will grow up with that experience. Although the cost of living is rapidly changing, it is much better than what I experienced on the east coast! I certainly miss having Dunkin Donuts on every corner, proximity to the ocean and fresh seafood- but the homegrown corn and taste of beef is a fair trade! Plus I have plenty of family/friends who welcome me back east!
How did you meet your husband?
I met my hubby, Chuck, 3 months after moving to Iowa. He was my first and best friend. We worked at the same company and was two hours from his family, so colleagues saw us as a great match! At the time we met we were complete opposites! He truly gave me so many lessons in who I wanted to be and amplified the best parts of life. I think I did the same for him. I was a bit wild and not fiscally responsible. He was reserved, quiet never really travelled! We opened up different worlds to each other. After 10 years of marriage and two children, we are finding definite similarities in who we each have grown into!
How long have you known your oldest friend?
Hmmm, I would say 32 yrs. My neighbors had a girl the same age as me. Our parents made a path between our houses for us to visit without having to go on the roads. I have wonderful memories of playing with her. Thanks to Facebook we still communicate but I have not actually seen her in 10 years! WOW!
Is there anything you have always wanted to do, but are too chicken to?
Lots! I am a “nervous nelly”, and admittedly a helicopter mom. I am terribly scared of heights and love the thought of parasailing. But if I ever had the opportunity, I am not sure I would be able to go through with it!
Blogging actually involved conquering some fears. I wanted to start a blog probably a full year before I actually did it. I am super sensitive, so I feared what people could say in comments. So I am proud that I finally got the courage to do it!
If you could travel anywhere in the world for vacation, where would you go?
Oh my, anywhere? I used to work in travel- so there is so many places I wanted to see! A safari in Africa! Or Cruise in the Mediterranean! But if I had to be realistic I cannot wait to take my boys to Disney. I did an Summer internship at Walt Disney World while in college. My husband has never been there- I simply cannot wait to see the joy in ALL of their faces!
Do you have a favorite hobby?
I used to scrapbook (before kids) but now all of my excess time (Lol) is spent educating myself about the blogging world. It is a huge learning curve, but I so enjoy learning new things. I was ill prepared for the late hours I would be putting in, but when I started I REALLY needed a “mommy time” project.
What made you decide to start blogging?
Oops, I started to answer that above. However the actual start involved facebook, a bet and a dare. Intriguing huh? We e had read story about staying off social media and my husband as prepared to offer me $200.00 if I could stay off Facebook for 6 months. This was big money too my stay at home salary! But alas, I was addicted and asked my friends what they thought! Well, one of my successful blogger friends countered the challenge and said if I could learn Word Press she might be interested in working with me at some point! Needless to say, I was signing up for my domain and web host that very night!
What’s your favorite form of social media and why?
Facebook, by far. I have the most fun connecting with old friends and new! I love giving little updates on the funny stuff my kids do! You just can’t do that in under 140 characters. As far as Pinterest, that one is just a time sucker for me! I get lost pinning great ideas but get little accomplished. Instagram is fun, but I find it difficult to work with. StumbleUpon and TumblR I have yet to fully understand the purpose and best use of! I am hopeful to get in to YouTube but I always seem to miss the best moments!
What advice would you offer a new blogger?
Lol…I was going to ask you this question Michelle!
Ooh lot’s of advice! I just wrote a post for Mommy Hot Spot on the subject. I guess be prepared for the time it takes and get organized anyway that is helpful for you!
Do you have a long term goal for your blogging?
Yes, product blogging/brand ambassadorships. It is truly what I enjoy most. Especially if it involve the kids! It is so great when I get to combine the kids and blogging! They love the products and pictures! As I mom, I wish I followed more blog advice when I first had a child ( I didn’t discover blogging until pregnant with my 2nd child).
